I will be presenting my paper, “Weaponization of Law in Authoritarian Populist Regime,” at the international conference 30 Years of CEPSA – 30 Shades of Freedom in Central and Eastern Europe: Historical Legacies, Democratic Challenges, and the Politics of Freedom, held in Plzeň, Czech Republic, on 24–25 September 2026. My presentation examines how the Orbán regime has transformed the Hungarian Fundamental Law into an instrument of political power. Drawing on the concepts of autocratic legalism, the dual state, populist constitutionalism, and constitutional dictatorship, I explore the weaponisation of constitutional law through anti-immigration policies, anti-gender politics, and extraordinary governance measures. The presentation concludes by addressing the challenges of militant democracy and democratic resilience in the face of authoritarian legalism.
